To take out the trash is simple. It simply requires one to take the garbage bag out of the garbage can and carry it to the garbage dumpster. All in all, it probably takes one minute, two at the most. But if one were to walk into my apartment of six males, it would quickly become painfully obvious that this one to two minute task has not been performed in over a week.
The accumulation starts simply enough. When a fresh trash bag has just been inserted, life is good. You can simply throw away your trash without any fear that it will bounce out of the trash can after hitting trash that is already there. Once the trash can becomes full, then the cereal boxes and Wheat Thins boxes and cookie boxes begin to surround the trashcan like presents around a Christmas tree. Still, fairly harmless. In addition, the empty boxes surrounding the trash can become mini-trash cans of their own that can be stuffed with everything from candy wrappers to banana peels to unpopped popcorn kernels. You might even say using old trash to serve as trash cans is downright economical. I don't see any reason to complain so far. Unfortunately, the saying holds true: "All good things must come to and end." Although the trash can and mini-trash cans have been stuffed to the brim like a turkey on Thanksgiving (or for that matter our stomachs during any one of many holiday seasons), you just become so accustomed to being so economical (or lazy) and saving trash bags that the trash on top of and surrounding the trash can builds. It builds to the point of stink and that is when irritation enters the playing field. The same people who had faithfully added to the accumulation of trash throughout the week become irriated and in the name of "service" perform the one to two minute task of taking out the garbage. A new trash bag in inserted, peace is restored, and the cycle begins again.

That scenario is so true to college life and repeats itself over and over again in ALL apartments, be they male or female. Byron's apartment had it PRETTY bad. Hope you have a nice fresh trash bag in there at the moment. :) Byron's roommates would spray air freshener in the kitchen as opposed to taking the trash out. At least they did something right?:)
ReplyDeleteHilarious, because it's so true! Mom
