"Bigger is better and better is bigger. A little bit is never enough NO NO NO!"
In America, we like to do things big. We like supersized fastfood meals. We like movie marathons. We like big TVs. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong about "going big."
My birthday was this last Tuesday, the 3rd of March, and this year I turned 22 years old. I followed the American tradition of going big this last week and celebrated not simply a birth day, but rather a birthday week. The festivities began last Monday and will culminate tomorrow.
On my birthday eve, a couple of recent converts from the Phillipines and Hong Kong called me to wish me a happy birthday. I love to hear from them! Missionaries find joy in their converts, and I am no different. I love them and I am so happy and grateful to hear from them and most importantly to hear they are firm in the Faith. Tuesday (my actual birthday) was great! I let myself sleep in to 8:30 AM, I went for a run, and then I went to class. Codi, my brother-in-law's sister, bought me a slice of birthday cake at lunch, and then I spent the rest of the afternoon talking on the phone to family and friends from back home. Later that night, my roommates sang happy birthday to me and they gave me a new basketball as their apartment present to me. Oh yeah, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. What a great day! Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I continued to enjoy my birthday week through a mass of belated birthday wishes via text message and Facebook. Finally, this afternoon (Saturday) my roommates took DJ (March 5th birthday) and me out for lunch at Cafe Rio. I love Cafe Rio!
Who knows what tomorrow has in store? But I say, "Who cares?! It is still my birthday week and i am going to enjoy it!"
I love going big. I'm proud to be an American.
